Dale Wishewan, President and CEO of Booster Juice, received
the Foodservice and Hospitality Industry’s prestigious award for Entrepreneur
of the Year 2005. He was also presented with the highly-touted Prairie Region
Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ernst and Young. Isn’t that
amazing? Only six years after opening his first store, that marks an outstanding
achievement for someone who believed in himself. It started in his garage when
he was whipping up smoothie flavours and his family and friends called him
crazy for quitting a stable, well-paying job to open a juice bar.
Moreover, we all know about his resounding success with over
200 stores worldwide. However, he describes himself as an optimist. He didn’t
have a business plan when he opened his first store in November, 1999 in
Edmonton, Canada. Being a Canadian himself, he knew Canadians are very much
value-driven. His family were skeptical and told him that no one is going to
pay four bucks for a drink. Nonetheless, it proved that customers are willing
to pay that much for a healthy and tasty alternative.
His dream is to open 400 stores in Canada; do you think he
will succeed? Why?
